Research Interests
My current research aims to understand how the activity of microbes influence the stabilization or loss of carbon from soils. I study microbial community activity and composition in response to long-term temperature increase in a semiarid ecosystem and after high severity forest fires in a subalpine forest ecosystem.
Background
I enjoy living, studying and working in the Sonoran Desert. I am also passionate about informal science education and outreach and spend my free time working with programs that provide these opportunities for young students. In addition to my graduate studies I work as an Environmental Consultant for Terracon Consultants Inc. I have worked on a variety of environmental projects with the City of Tucson, Pima County, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency.
